Finally!!! First playlist of 2011

Hey everyone! The end of the 2010 got super busy with finals and law school apps but
I'm ready to start the new year off right with songs I've been listening to. As always, feel free to comment about what you think and what music you've been listening to!

1. Kanye West Feat. John Legend: Blame Game
I love the song that Kanye samples in this song, Aphex Twin's Avril 14th. A beautiful and haunting piano melody set to the artistry of Kanye and the voice of Mr. Legend- definitely a great combination. Kanye's new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is def. one of his more experimental albums to date but I would say check it out.

2. Duran Duran: Girl Panic
I personally love the 80's. A great synth melody will always catch my attention and who better than Duran Duran? Their new album All You Need Is Now is produced by one of my favorite artist Mark Ronson. Take that great 80's sound, the timelessness off their hooks mixed with Ronson's genius ear for music made a great new album. Girl Panic is just a taste of the frantic fast paced album that will get you dancing.

3. Matt and Kim: Good for Great
Matt and Kim just simply rock. The duo have a touch for fun electronic music that comes off initially kind of weird but after taking a few more listens realizing that you absolutely love it. The duo also know how to create a good hook, and I can't help but sing a long and feel so free when I listen to this song.

4. The Tings Tings: Day by Day
Katie White is really pretty. Not only that, she's mega talented. While Day by Day has not been officially released yet, they performed it live on Live with Jools Holland (love that show). Katie has a great voice and Jules knows just the arrangement to highlight her voice. The performance is great and I personally can't wait for their sophomore album.

5. Jens Lekman: Kanske Ar Jag Kar I Dig
What a neat voice Jens has. I have no idea what the name of the song means but it details beautifully a sweet story of a man too shy to open up to the girl he really likes- and just how we all say stupid things around the ones we like.

6. Florence and the Machine: Howl
One of the breakouts of the year! Florence rocks with this song about the more primal instincts of human nature and human sexuality- but other than it's just a cool song that you can't but help get caught in. Florence voice is unique and her arrangements just draw you.

7. Mark Ronson and The Business Int'l (Alex Feldman and Boy George): Somebody to Love
Me
Mark Ronson's third album, Record Collection has to be my favorite album of his. Mark works with so many different great artist on this album like Alex Feldman, Boy George, MNDR, Q-Tip, the list goes on. Somebody to Love Me is my favorite track on the album and is def. an homage to the 80's, ripped almost out of the page of Culture Club. Get caught up in the hypnotic Somebody to Love Me.

8. MNDR: I Go Away
MNDR is a new artist I found and I love her song "I Go Away". Another electronic artist but I Go Away is full of emotion. I love the raw emotion that she expresses with a simple bass drum, even though electronic is not for their heavy production value, it's the minimalist approach that MNDR takes on this song that I can't help but love.

9. Ellie Goulding: Lights
Ellie is this great artist from England that is getting a lot of attention. Ellie single Lights is a catchy dreamy song that you can't help but listen to. Catchy and sultry Ellie is def. going to blow up soon- just wait and see.

10. Adele: Rolling in Deep
Adele's first album 19 was pure genius. Her soulful voice is just unmistakable and just a pure pleasure to listen to. Rolling in Deep is similar vein to her tracks from 19. Rolling in Deep is a song you play over and over again just to appreciate Adele voice.
