Playlist of the Moment

Here is what's I'm listening to at the moment. Check it out!

1. Scala and Kolancy Bros: Choir Cover of Damien Rice's The Blower's Daughter
What's could make Damien Rice's melodramatic masterpiece even more interesting? Why have sung by a girl's choir. A haunting rendition of an already beautiful and tragic song, I can't but seem to get this version out of my head. They also do a great cover of Creep by RadioHead which can be heard on the trailer for the new movie social network.

Check out the video Here

2. Mr. Hudson Feat. Kid Cudi: Everything is Broken
How awesome is Mr. Hudson? Making his debut on some pretty high profile rap/hip-hop songs like Jay-Z's Young Forever and Kanye's Paranoid. In his remarkable 2nd album Mr. Hudson showcases his unique voice and his hip-hop/pop centric flare. Everything is broken is a great collaboration with Kid Cudi- it uses some def. catchy beats that you can't but help jam out to. I def. recommend checking out Mr Hudson's album Straight No Chaser.

Check out the video Here

3. The High Wire: Hang From the Ceiling
It's funny how to stumble upon new music. My sis gave me one of those starbucks weekly free songs- and viola I found this song. It def. grew on me. There is something really haunting about this song- and something about the line "This is the last time I'll take you out tonight." Sometimes there are reasons why you like a song but just can't articulate them that well- this is one of them.

4. OneRepublic: Secrets
OneRepublic is just awesome. Sweeping melodies and anthems- you can't just be caught up in the powerhouse of OneRepublic. I love their second album, and while it takes on a new approach from their prior work- it def. is a direction that works. Secrets is a moving song that you just want to close your eyes and dramatically sing along.

Watch the video Here

5. Jenny and Johnny: Scissor Runner
I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say that one of the reasons this song is on here is because I love Jenny Lewis. Heralded as one of the great lyricist of our time- Jenny Lewis really can do no wrong in book. Jenny teams up with Johnny Rice- fellow musician and boyfriend on what turns out to be a really just fun country/indie record (eat that Scarlett Johannsen and Pete Yorn). But really though- check out this song- it will have you in a nostalgic daze.

Watch the video Here

6. Brandon Flowers: Crossfire
Brandon Flower is always changing and really doing something interesting. In his first single solo Crossfire stirs up memories of Sam's Town- and I can't but help enjoy it. There is always something very moving about Brandon's lyrics (even though they can be quite unsettling at the same time) that always makes me wondering what he's trying to say. Crossfire is a great start to his solo album Flamingo and I can't wait to listen to it after it comes out!

Watch the video Here

7. Shiny Toy Guns: Rocketship 2010
Shiny Toy Guns are another staple are my music list. Every since I heard Don't Cry Out I've been hooked. While I didn't really enjoy their second album, there new work really recalls stuff from We Are Pilots- fun, electronic, futuristic and catchy. While they seem to be on a weird space kick Rocketship 2010 is just a song that gets to on the floor moving.

Watch the video Here

8. Frankmusik: Confusion Girl (Shame Shame)
There is just something utterly delightful about this song. Frankmusik has a sheer delight singing this song about a confused girl who just can't figure out her life- and in the process brings down others with her (with a jolly electronic tune in the background). Either way just check it out.

9. Florence + The Machine: Dog Days are Over
Florence + the Machine are really gaining some steam. Dog Days are Over is truly a song of celebration and I can't but help but want to sing along- especially during the climax of the song which is just an all out explosion of declarations of freedom and finding contentment. You go Florence.

Watch the video Here

10. Inhaler Feat. Christian Burns: Something About You
What an interesting find. Christian Burns was a member of BBMak (Strange right) and does this get techno/house song with Inhaler. Unique, haunting and fun to dance to- who knew BBMak was back? lol

Watch the video Here

11. Mark Ronson feat. Intl. Business: Bang Bang Bang
Mark Ronson is the man. His newest song has him partnering up with Q-Tip in a really strange (if you think combining French, Japanese elements into a song is weird). Ronson is known for combing a modern flare with that kind of jazzy throwback. Bang Bang Bang maybe weird- but in the funniest way possible.

Watch the video Here

12. Mumford and Sons: Little Lion Man
What I really love about this song is the unique combination of folk/country/pop that all melted perfectly into this song. There is something about the composition of the chorus and you can feel of the pain of the line "But it was not your fault- but mine." If you want to try something new def. take a listen to Little Lion Man.

Watch the video Here

13. Brandon Flowers: Jenny was a Friend of Mine Acoustic
The return of Brandon Flowers to my list. Hot Fuss will go down as one of my favorite albums of all time- and thanks in the part to the scary/dark/passionate opening with Jenny was a Friend of Mine. Brandon puts a new twist on this version- but keeps the terrifying obsession and frailty alive- it's just a classic.

PlayList of the Moment

So I haven't posted in awhile but I thought it would be a good time for an update! Here are some songs I've been listening to lately, tell me what you think and if you have any good recommendations I would love to hear them!

1. Alpha Rev: New Morning
I heard this song on the radio and thought it was a gem. I didn't know who Alpha Rev was at first and I actually thought the song was by Matt Kearney(esque?) but I kept hearing this song and eventually found out who it was. Full of optimism this song can't help but make me smile. I did find out when I was downloading this song that it was in that horrible Miley Cyrus movie, which just proves that you can find good movies anywhere- even in atrocities.

Listen to it Here

2. V.V. Brown: Shark in the Water
If you don't know, I love the revival of the 60's Motown kind of feel. V.V. Brown's peppy Shark in the Water is clear pop but if you listen closely you can just feel those influences. A fun song, you can't help but sing along to the big chorus. Even though it doesn't make sense. :)

Listen to it Here

3. Little Boots: Remedy
I was slightly weary of song at first, but Little Boots have proven to be a part of the new generation of Gaga esque electronic dipped pop, Remedy is a cool song you got to listen to. It will have you dancing in no time.

Listen to it Here

4. Mike Posner: Cooler Than Me
Who hasn't met a girl like this? That point aside, Mike Posner's Cooler Than Me is, well it's really cool. A combination of electronic/smooth R and B esque verses, this is just a cool. Count how many times I used the word cool in this little paragraph.:0

Listen to it Here

5. Leona Lewis: Cover of Run by Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol Final Straw album is my favorite from their repertoire. The best song on the album, the grandiose Run, a tragic 5 minute of pure heaven. Leona has a great voice and she brings another element to this great song and you def. have to check out her cover of this already amazing song.

Listen to it Here

6. Broken Bell: October
I remember hearing this song and thinking this guy sounded so much like the Shins. Of course it does, since it is a fun side project of the lead singer of The Shins and Danger Mouse. It's super Shin esque, filled with an interesting almost psychedelic vibe. I couldn't stop listening when I first heard and you should have a listen.

Listen to it Here

7. B.o.B Feat. Hayley Williams of Paramore: Airplanes
I think as weird as it sounds, I really like Hayley Williams. There is just something cool about her. B.o.B is blowing up the charts right now and I can see why, with great songs and like Nothing on You and the duet with Rivers Cuomo (=W=!!!) B.o.B sound is innovative and his duet with Hayley is just cool. She brings a very interesting element to the song and I can't wait to see more of what B.o.B has to offer.

Listen to it Here

8. Glee: Cover of Dream On by Aerosmith
Glee!!! So I love Glee but I usually don't put Glee songs on my playlist but I had to give credit the Joss Whedon directed ep that brought us the mind blowing duet between Matthew Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris. Dream On is an epic song in itself, but having those two blast it out was pure genius.

Listen to the epic-ness Here

9. The Like: He isn't a Boy
Back to the 60's? The Like is a sassy all female band that def. came from another decade. The Like's He Isn't a Boy is just exactly what they represent, sarcastic, strong women who like that old time sound. What's better than that?

10. The Ordinary Boys: Lonely at the Top
Def. an older song that never really came to America but Lonely at the Top is pure genius. I remember listening to this song non-stop and while the Ordinary Boys aren't' making music anymore, I''ll always have this song.
