Weekly Playlist

Here is my playlist for the week- tell me what you think!

1. Miles Fisher- Cover of the Talking Heads This Must Be the Place
As you know from my other playlist, I love cover songs! Miles Fisher is an up and coming actor/musician who actually has a pretty good voice. His re-working of this song is fun and the video he made for the song is quite memorable. Miles looks just like Christian Bale and he reenacts the cult-classic American Psycho. Fun song, fun video, what's not to like?

2. Black Eye Peas- I Gotta Feeling
What's not to appreciate about the Black Eye Peas? I've always liked that the band is that it has never allowed itself to be classified into one category- playing off the genres of hip-hop, r & b, pop and dance. Their new single is the number 1 on iTunes right now and I too have caught the fever. This song is just pure fun, and always brings a smile on my face.

3. Jenny Lewis- Rise up with Fists
I heart Jenny Lewis. I really do, I love her band Rilo Kiley and I love her solo work. Rise up with Fists was from her first solo album Rabbit Fur Coat, and I can't help but love this song. Filled with witty, ironic and thought provoking lyrics, it's trademark Lewis. My favorite line is "Are you really that pure? I thought I saw you in Vegas and it wasn't pretty but she was (not your wife) but she will wake wealthy, and you will wake up 45". I recommend you check out this gem of a song.

4. Weezer- The Good Life
I love Weezer. Plain and simple, when people ask me what some of my favorite bands are I instantly answer with Weezer. Is there something about nerd rockabilly? Perhaps? Is it River Cuomo's ability to string guitar pop melodies with self depreciating yet always clever lyrics? Possibly. Either way, I chose the Good Life because it's from Weezer's odd yet now post-90's masterpiece Pinkerton. The Good Life is classic Weezer, and why can't we just all live the good life?

5. She and Him- Why do you Let me Stay Here?
How cute is Zoey Deschanel? And who knew she could write songs and sing? Well when I heard this song, I was pleasantly surprised by She and Him's Why Do you Let Me Stay Here and I can't but just be happy when I hear this song.

6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Heads will Roll
From how cute is Zoey to how freaking badass is Karen O? I mean really, she's just far to cool for the rest of us. Karen O is the lead singer and frontwoman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ( you probably know their most famous single, Maps) but the band has continued to produce interesting and rocking new music since then. Their latest single Heads will Roll continues this string of great music. There is something really raw, something that just rocks about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and this song.

7. Silversun Pickups- Panic Switch
Silversun Pickups music always just makes me want to chill out, even on their great up tempo songs. I was a big fan of their first album and was excited to see their new work and they didn't disappoint. Haunting, melodic and hook driven melodies drive home Panic Switch as a great single.

8. Noisettes- Cover of The Killer's When you Were Young
My second cover for the week, the Noisette's remind me a lot of Corrine Bailey Rae. A jazzy take on the The Killer's song, it's plays on how a cover should be done- different from the original version, yet it remains truthful to the original version. If you like a more jazz influenced sound, check this cool cover out.

9. Eric Hutchinson- Rock and Roll
Eric Hutchinson performed at my college this past year and he was great! Bringing a very singer-songwriter aesthetic that I always appreciate. Rock and Roll is just a fun- natured song. While there is a great message with the song, it really just makes me want to sing along.

10. Depeche Mode- Wrong
I love Depeche Mode. I have a love for electronica done right, and who does it better than Depeche mode? Wrong is a song that is well, interesting and I didn't like at first, but it has grown on me (something about David saying Wrong like 100+ times is kind of annoying, and kind of unnerving) but nevermind that- the song is pure Depeche Mode and if you've been missing out for the electronic sound, Depeche Mode is back.
